Litigation partner Divyesh Popat has been appointed a trustee of a charity close to his heart.
Rays of Sunshine is a UK children’s charity which brightens the lives of seriously ill children aged 3 to 18 by granting wishes and providing support in hospital and within the community. With over 49,000 children and young people with a serious or life-limiting illness, the work of this charity is vital in creating precious experiences, reducing feelings of isolation and improving self-esteem.
Divyesh has close connections with the charity after his son Raul, who lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, had his greatest wish granted in 2012: to be a mascot for Manchester United.
“I am humbled, honoured and excited to be joining Rays of Sunshine as a trustee,” says Divyesh, “I am in awe of the amazing work that the charity does and the happiness it brings to the lives of so many sick children and their families. I experienced this first hand when Raul was granted his wish and I know he still looks back on the experience with a smile on his face. I am very much looking forward to working with the team and it will be a privilege to contribute.”
Stephen Allan, Chair of Board of Trustees at Rays of Sunshine, said:
“I am delighted to welcome Divyesh to the Board of Trustees. Divyesh not only brings his legal expertise and vast knowledge of working with charities in a similar space, but also a unique, and invaluable perspective of experiencing the charity’s work first-hand.”
